The 2008 Portland Feis Syllabus
 Please Note: ITDANA Rules for First Feis, Beginner 1 and 2 grades will not be permitted to wear solo costumes. Only school costumes or skirt and blouse may be worn.
 First Feis solos are open only to those dancers who have never competed in a Feis. Dancers may not repeat these dances in a higher category, but may enter in Beginner 1 dances not offered in First Feis category.
 All effort will be made in combining competitions where there are less than 5 competitors entered.
 Minimum of 50% Awards will be given in all competitions.
 There will be a special “Most Promising Beginner” Perpetual award given to a dancer in the Beginner grade determined by the judges on the day of the Feis. No extra entry necessary.

In the case of Open Championships where entries warrant, Boys & Girls will be split into separate competitions.
Please Note that there are no separate Prelim & Open Solos. Medals will be awarded for winners in each round of Prelim & Open Championships in addition to trophies for overall winners in each championship.
Three rounds will take place in BOTH Preliminary and Open Championships. First Round Hard Shoe: Treble Jig or Hornpipe. Second Round Light Shoe: Reel or Slip Jig. Third Round: Set Dance of your own choice.

Instrumental Requirements: 2 Irish tunes in contrasting tempo played on Whistle, Flute, Fiddle, Accordion, Concertina, Piano, Mandolin, Banjo, Bouzouki, Cittern, Harp or Uillean Pipes.
Vocal Requirements: One unaccompanied Traditional Irish Song in English or Irish.
Musical/Vocal Group Requirements: 2 or more musicians, 2 tunes or one song.
Competitors are required to provide their own instruments.
